Emergency Fund Award Guidelines
Episcopal Charities has dedicated a fund for the purposes of awarding Emergency grants and/or no-interest loans to grantees whose programs are in jeopardy of suspension and/or termination due to unforeseen, Emergency circumstances. For the purposes of this fund, "Emergency" shall be defined as a verifiable, unexpected and sudden event that will cause the program to temporarily suspend operations pending its remediation, which remediation may be immediately conducted upon receipt of funding currently unavailable to the program.
General Guidelines- An Emergency grant/no-interest loan is awarded in an amount up to $5,000.
- Grantees must demonstrate that they have no other financial resources immediately available to be used to address the Emergency.
- The application form must be completed in its entirety with all required documents attached, and signed by the Rector, Priest-in-Charge or corporate officer overseeing the program. If the program is separately incorporated, this application must be endorsed by the parish sponsoring the program.
- Programs awarded an Emergency grant/no-interest loan must comply with all follow-up requirements as detailed in the application form.
- Completed and signed applications with supporting documentation may be delivered to Episcopal Charities offices at 1087 Amsterdam Avenue, New York NY 10025. Our offices are in Diocesan House, 2nd Floor.
- In the alternative, completed and signed applications may be scanned and emailed to Episcopal Charities at ddambrot@dioceseny.org.
- Completed and signed applications may also be faxed to Episcopal Charities at 212-316-7431. If faxing, please call our offices at 212-316-7426 to alert us of your application.
- Every effort will be made to make a determination on an Emergency fund request within three business days of receipt of the completed and signed application.
- Emergency fund applications will be reviewed and determined by a sub-committee consisting of the Advisory Committee Chair, the Executive Director, the Associate Director, and an Advisory Committee member representing the diocesan region where the program is located.
- For purposes of determining the application, it shall be sufficient and a quorum shall consist of the Advisory Committee Chair, either the Executive Director or Associate Director, and the regional Advisory Committee member.
- Upon receipt of the application, the Associate Director shall immediately notify the Advisory Committee Chair, the Executive Director, and the appointed regional Advisory Committee member and email copies of the application to them.
- The sub-committee shall review the application by means of conference call or whatever means are found to be most expedient, in the discretion of the Advisory Committee Chair.
- The Associate Director shall notify the applicant forthwith of this determination.
- Notices are initially communicated by email and telephone for the sake of expediency.
- Should the application be approved, the Associate Director shall prepare and have executed the necessary documentation for grantee signature[s], and request a check in payment of the grant or loan.
- Upon receipt of the executed documentation by the grantee, the Associate Director shall forward the grant check to the grantee.
- Applicants are advised that an Emergency funds grant, if approved, will be disbursed upon all documentation being executed and received by Episcopal Charities.
